DIY Flat Tire Change
If you are a DIY person, we have put together a few tips to assist you with your tire change. But if for someone reason you don’t have all the necessary tools, or don’t have a spare tire, you can always count on us here at Clean Earth Recovery for assistance no matter the time of day or night.
First, you will want to steer your car slowly to the side of the road to a safe location. Try to find an area that is out of the way of traffic, not on an incline, and a flat surface if possible.
Secondly, after you are stopped, turn on your flashers, and if you have safety triangles, use those as well. Doing this will signify to other motorists to move over to help keep you safe while changing your tire.
Thirdly, once you have initiated all the safety procedures, apply the parking brake to keep your vehicle from rolling. Then locate all the necessary tools you will need to change your tire. Which include; spare tire, jack, and tools. One note, not all of the tools required are the same for every vehicle. Your owner’s manual will have a list of all necessary tools and where to find your spare tire.
Now for the hard part, the tire change
Fourthly, before you jack up the car, go ahead and loosen the nuts. This is done to avoid having the vehicle fall off the jack. Sometimes your lug nuts can be challenging to remove and all the movent may cause a mishap. Once the lugs are loosened, go ahead and jack the car up. Follow the instructions in your owner’s manual to determine where precisely the jack should come into contact with your vehicle.
You’ll want to ensure that you raise the car sufficiently so that there’s enough clearance for the spare to go back on. Now you are ready to remove your bad tire and replace it with the spare. Tighten the lug nuts in a criss-cross manner so that they are all sufficiently tightened. Slowly let the jack down and ensure that the spare tire remains inflated.
